What have I learned? Well every office has at least one Fanny Pack. Or should I say just like there is a kicker on every football team there is at least one oddball/socially inept co-worker in every office. Of course this scales to the size of the office.

I work in a small office now and so far I have been warned about so and so. So and so as he will be called is an older man, and he is a veteran. He likes things to be a certain way. Mind you I have been here two weeks and he has already quoted to me at least four times the company policy about mandatory 30 minute breaks for anyone who works more than 5 hours. That is not what landed him here in my slice of the internet though. It was my experience at Togo’s. We did not go to lunch together, like I said I was warned about him (maybe they should add that to the new hire checklist). So the chef at Togo’s put onions on his samich… Which led to screaming…I am not kidding a 50 – 60 year old man was screaming at the minimum wage sandwich crafter. I TOLD YOU NO ONIONS, turns to me, what are these people idiots..I CAN”T STAND ONIONS … it spiraled down from there.

It is funny that The Office season premiered last night. Can’t wait to watch it.

I can't explain. When I first met him eight years ago, he was working with the Catholic Peace Fellowship. Last winter, Jim came to visit. I usually wash the dishes after we've finished the evening meal, before sitting down and drinking tea with everyone else. One night, Jim asked if he might do the dishes. I said, "Go ahead, but if you wash the dishes you must know the way to wash them." Jim replied, "Come on, you think I don't know how to wash the dishes?" I answered, "There are two ways to was the dishes. The first is to wash the dishes in order to have clean dishes and the second is to wash the dishes to wash the dishes." Jim was delighted and said, "I choose the second way--to wash the dishes to wash the dishes." From then on, Jim knew how to wash the dishes. I transferred the "responsibility" to him for an entire week.

If while washing dishes, we think only of the cup of tea that awaits us, thus hurrying to get the dishes out of the way as if they were a nuisance, then we are not "washing the dishes to wash the dishes." What's more, we are not alive during the time we are washing the dishes. In fact, we are completely incapable of realizing the miracle of life while standing at the sink. If we can't wash the dishes, the chances are we won't be able to drink our tea either. While drinking the cup of tea, we will only be thinking of other things, barely aware of the cup in our hands. Thus we are sucked away into the future and we are incapable of actually living one minute of life." ~The Miracle of Mindfulness by Thich Nhat Hanh

Day 1...kinda.

Well it has been done. One of the hardest things I have ever done.

So this is funny, my peeps at work were discussing what should be done since I am leaving. Like go out for lunch.
